Take palce on every April 22nd, Earth Day was announced to be an environmental preservation day by an envionmental activist senetor Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin. Following the early mid 60's  The Wilderness Act, which was to protect 9 million acres of the States.
In 1962 he started with President John F. Kennedy to include this issued in president's conservation tour for eleven states over five days in September 1963. It was the first step of senetor Nelson and until the recognition of the Earth Day was started in 1970 officially.

There were the "teach-ins" in the 60's by the anti-war protestors who share their vision about the Vietnam War in Campus, this activity inspired senetor Nelson to started the "teach-ins" about the environment and from the annoucement of the environmental plan in September 1969. He started to received the response from the letters, telegrams and calls from all over country.

The first Earth Day organization was started with a few college students as staff following the lead of Daren Hayes. The movement of the activity take place with the grassroots level and spread across twenty million people in United States.

Earth Day take place on the same day as the Arbor Day, the birthday of the Arbor day's founder Julius Sterling Morton which is still celebrated on April 22nd in Nebraska. The Earth Day was celebrated all over the world but different fit with the best planting for each area. Some do the Earth Day around March 21st which around the vernal equinox, the day in spring that having equal day and night.

Over 175 countries and more than a half billion people are celebrating Eath Day nowadays, as the result of the continued growing since the beginning. Some cities even have Earth week taken place from April 16th to 22nd. This all is to remind us how important our environment are, and enjoy your Earth Day.
